Mel Cool: Mall Cop® is a comicbook action hero created in 1995 by Walt Jaschek (script and layouts) and Don Secrease. (character designs and art.)
Mel's first appearances were in nationally distributed comicbooks throughout the 1990s, a time when Paul Blart was just entering adolescence. Here's a Q&A with Walt about that.

Currently, Walt is creating the daily humor webcomic Dang Gnats! He and Don also co-created with Bill Lux the Herobots, a superhero group for young readers. They are all wearing t-shirts that read, "Take a Chillaxative and Chillax."
